American athlete Tyson Gay was
sprinting to a record second fastest 100m win of 9.69 seconds, at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix on Sunday. Another American, Carmelita Jeter won the women's 100m race in 10.64 seconds. Chinese fans at Shanghai Stadium applauded Liu Xiang for coming second in a photo finish in his first 110m hurdles race, since a foot injury forced him to pull out of the Beijing Games last August. Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva won her event clearing 15 feet 11 inches.
