Billabong 2009 world surfing games

Santa Ana's Courtney Conlogue led the USA Surf Team today to its first International Surfing Association world title since 1996. Competing at Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica, Conlogue, 16, took the women's ISA world title, outpointing Rosanne Hodge of South Africa and two other finalists. "When you get to the final you just throw it all on the table," Conlogue told webcast interviewer Jason Shibata. She outclassed the field in the women's final, racking up 15.20 points on two scoring waves to just 8.96 for her closest rival.

France took the silver medal, led by gold medalists Jeremy Flores in the men's final and Antoine Delpero in the longboard division. Thirty-five teams competed in the eight-day tournament. Ian Cairns of Laguna Beach coached the U.S. team to victory.
