The Italian women's volleyball team won the gold medal in the 2009 Mediterranean Games in Pescara, Italy on Saturday. They beat the Turkish female volleyball team 3-2 in the finals, with the game scores of 25-17, 20-25, 18-25, 25-19, and 15-10. The Italian men's volleyball team also took gold beating Spain in the finals. In the Pescara Games overall Italy won the top spot with 63 gold medals, France came in second with 46 gold medals, followed by Spain with 27 gold medals. The Italian women were without their key player Italo-Cuban Tai Aguero, but with the skills of Francesca Piccinini (below), also known as one of the hottest female volleyball players in the world, team Italy won gold.

In women's beach volleyball team Spain narrowly defeated Italy 21-19 15-21 17-15. Spain also took the gold in the men's beach volleball event:
