Mary Osborne surfing

Mary Osborne was 14 when she first took up surfing because she “wanted to be better than the boys". The 27-year old currently ranks fifth in the world as a longboard professional surfer. In 2003, she was nominated for a Teen Choice Award as "Best Female Athlete" and was named the first "Action Girl of the Year" by Action Girl Inc. "I hope to continue to grow, learn and experience new things," said Osborne, who is most widely known for winning the longboard division of MTV’s Surf Girls. "I want to continue to surf, travel, share life with interesting people and live every day to its fullest."

The 5'4" tall blue-eyed blonde grew up near the ocean in the family's home on Solimar Beach in Ventura. Her dad is a dentist and her mom a teacher. Mary Osborne began surfing when she was about 14. "I got into it basically because I wanted to be better than the boys," she said of her older brothers, who are all surfers. "I was supposed to be the ballerina."

Mary Osborne is also a part-time model and has been featured in magazines like Longboard, Surfing, Surfer, Surf News, Surfer's Path, Wahine, Surf Life for Women, Surfing Girl, Nalu, FHM, Entertainment Weekly and Spin Magazine. Osborne was in the movie "Longboard Magic." She is also the first woman ever to grace the cover of The Surfer's Path, a popular European Surf magazine. "I feel the most alive when I’m in the ocean! I love the feeling I get when I’m out there."
