Sports players in trouble

Two sports players have got into trouble with the law. Football star Steven Gerrard, who plays for Liverpool club and England's national team, was charged with affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm following a nightclub brawl. The incident took place at the Lounge Inn, Southport, on 28 December.

Steven Gerrard had gone with friends for drinks at the Inn (in the picture above) to celebrate Liverpool's top spot in the premier league and their 5-1 win at Newcastle. 28-year old Steven and his friends were charged with affray and assaulting businessman Marcus McGee, 34, who lost a tooth and suffered cuts and bruises. McGee is a Manchester United fan and in charge of the bar's music; he had refused to play Gerrard's choice of music, leading to the scuffle.

Steven Gerrard faces up to 5 years in prison, but can continue playing for club and country till the verdict.

John Daly jail

Another sports player in trouble is the mercurial golfer John Daly. He has been suspended for six months by the PGA Tour for conduct that brought unwelcome publicity. This punishment is for an incident in October, where police in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, said John Daly appeared intoxicated outside a Hooters restaurant, and spent the night in jail (pic above).

"Is it fair that I got suspended? It's not fair in reality, but it's probably fair in perception," 42-year old Daly told The Associated Press, also calling the suspension "the lowest point" in his career.

Last month at the Australian Open, John Daly smashed a camera belonging to a golf fan.
