Sarah Burke

Beautiful Sarah Burke won gold in the skiing superpipe event at the Winter X games 13 in Aspen in dramatic style. The 25-year-old from Whistler, British Columbia, pulled off a nearly flawless run that included a 900 off the first hit and a 720 off the last. The run got her a 93.33 from judges — the highest score in event history. Sarah has been winning this event at Aspen ever since it was opened for girls in 2005.

It was also Sarah Burke who coaxed X Games organizers into adding ski slopestyle as an event in girls skiing. Unfortunately she came up a few feet short of the landing area and injured her back in her first attempt. Therefore Anna Segal of Australia won the inaugural women’s skiing slopestyle competition.

Part of the problem was the heavy snow and fog; the female skiers actually took a vote on whether the events could be modified.
