Robinho rape charge

25-year old Manchester City striker Robinho, who also plays for Brazil, was at a nightclub in Leeds called Space on January 14. An 18-year old student at the University of Yorkshire says she was attacked and raped by Robinho at the nightclub that night.

Robinho whose real name is Robson de Souza, and who is married with a son, was arrested and questioned by West Yorkshire Police yesterday. Chris Nathaniel, Robinho's spokesman, gave a spin to the arrest by saying that Robinho met the police yesterday "as pre-arranged as part of a criminal investigation".

Last week Robinho had slipped off to Sao Paulo for "personal reasons", but without the permission of Manchester City club and was fined around $ 1 million. Robinho will be playing in Machester City's game against Newcastle tonight.
