Reinfried Herbst Alpine Skiing

"I finally fulfilled my dream — winning a race in Austria," said Reinfried Herbst, who skied to victory in the World Cup night slalom in Schladming on Tuesday. And that too in front of a home crowd of 50,000. "This is the most beautiful win of my career."

He beat teammate Manfred Pranger by 1.16 seconds for his second win of the season and fifth overall. Ivica Kostelic of Croatia was third. Nine of the 30 racers missed a gate in their second run on the Planai course because of tough conditions following a recent heavy snowfall. That list included slalom season leader Jean-Baptiste Grange of France.

Men's alpine skiing now moves on to Garmisch for the competition in the downhill and slalom events from January 31 - February 1.
