Korfball

Korfball was invented in 1902 when Dutch school teacher Nico Broekhuysen learned a Swedish game called ringboll. He then simplified the rules and changed the ringboll hoop for a net and korfball was born. Korfball is very popular in the Netherlands and Belgium and is one of the few unisex sports.

The indoor sport is played with four men and four women on each side who defend their halves called zones. The object of the game is to get the ball into the tight basket in the opposition end’s half. Although korfball is a mix of men and women, men cannot tackle women and vice versa. The rules of the game are aimed at preventing a match being dominated by physical strength and promoting tactics.
