FA Cup news

Manchester United beat Southampton 3-0 to ensure that there was no repeat of the shocking defeat by Southampton in the 1976 FA Cup final. Manchester United, club world champions, entered the fourth round of the FA Cup with this win.

Aston Villa had to work hard for a 2-1 away win against League Two team Gillingham, and will be away in the fourth round to lower league opposition in Cheltenham or Doncaster. James Milner marked his 23rd birthday by scoring both goals for Villa at the Priestfield Stadium.

Arsenal has also entered the fourth round after beating Welsh team Plymouth Argyle. With the North London giants floundering in the Premier League, the FA Cup is a chance for them to win a trophy, repeating Arsenal's 2005 performance when they beat Manchester United in the finals.
