Dementieva wins Sydney

Beautiful Elena Dementieva beat Dinara Safina 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 on Friday in the women's title match at the Sydney International. Dementieva is now on a 10-match winning streak and is seeded No. 4 in the upcoming Australian Open. Russian girl Elena's victory over compatriot Dinara Safina was a repeat of their encounter in last year's Beijing Olympic tennis final. Dementieva earlier beat Serena Williams in the Sydney International semi-finals.

"This is great, to have all this pressure after winning two titles," Dementieva said. "Would it be better if I am just going to lose first round and play without pressure in Australia? No. It's great to have all these matches played here and in Auckland and coming to Australia with the pressure, I love it, I really do."

In the men's finals, Finland's Jarkko Nieminen lost to Argentina's David Nalbandian 6-3, 6-7(9), 6-2.
